Azure cloud desktop - it is not anymore, a fancy stuff for big corporate.
Main PROs:
Extremely cost-effective solution.
Can be set in very short time.
All machines can be managed from one point (Azure) - equivalent with Intune but far better (native azure resource management(
All are fully integrated into Azure services.
How to start?
Plan migration.
1. Consider buying low cost laptops able to run properly Microsoft Edge and desktop remote connection ($$$)
2. Set the minimum resources an employee may. For Office application and Adobe it means 2 processors/4 GB RAM. - you stay under $90/mo.
For someone who use Adobe suite (decent) 4 processors units and 16 GB RAM (General usage) - you stay under $200/mo.
2. Have you a massive pick? No problem, it is like renting a Maserati and pay by minute.
All backups are in Azure Data Lake Gen2 (blob) storage.
Now comes the real deal.
1. You can have at your fingers, anytime, a machine that you may not want to buy because does not worth. You can have it exactly when I need it in minutes. When demanding job is done, the VM must be scale down. Scaling up and down take 5 to 10 minutes and machine has to be shut down.
2. You can restore anytime to any version saved in the past, the same, in minutes.
3. All data is backed up in Data Lake (blob) available to any cognitive service and take advantage of hot, cold, archive storage options natively.
4. In Azure you pay monthly exactly what you consume. Never stay online when you not use it. Automatic shutdown can be scheduled.
5. Last but really nice. you use and carry with an extra light device that keeps running on battery 1 day or more and never get hot.
6. Any existing laptop can be virtualized and sent in cloud.
You can start here.
Be aware that here, you will be directed to a subscription and fixed resources.
It is not necessary to follow this path, it is starting point.
