- does not matter what users search, singular or plural, all items that contains singular or plural of searched term in name or items tags, are shown
- you can add tags to any item, that's search fine tuning at item level. Tags are very useful from SEO perspective.
The downside of using tags is that having hundreds of items (fins for example) you must edit and add tags to every single one. And that's not all. If you wish to change these tags, then you must start again. Time consuming, process expose to huma error and all over costs.
Advanced search allows administrators to quickly add / change tags for multiple products.
Real world scenario.
I want to allow users to find all "fin" or "fins" if they search by flipper, flippers, flipp or flip
In Admin area go Shop->Search terms / synonyms
Click on "Add search Term" and fill in details
That's all.
Now in website if I search by "flip" I get all fins
